LabTechnologist.com brings you its periodic round up of industry news from Biomatrica, Cogenics, Correlogic, Digilab, MDS Nordion, SuperArray and Sigma-Aldrich.

Biomatrica's room temperature DNA sample storage technology will now be available from Qiagen following an exclusive agreement was signed between the two companies.

As part of the agreement, Qiagen gains exclusive marketing rights for Biomatrica's exisiting products for the storage of purified DNA. In addition, Qiagen will pay Biomatrica an initial fee, development milestone payments, commission and royalties on any to be developed or custom-developed products.

Clinical Data's Cogenics Division has launched services on its recently acquired Roche 454 Genome Sequencer FLX sequencer, 8 weeks after signing a co-marketing agreement with Roche Diagnostics to offer next-generation sequencing services.

"Our team is enthusiastic about the level of customer interest in the 454 FLX system and pleased to be able to meet our customers' growing needs by providing complete solutions for low-cost and high-efficiency sequencing programs," stated Robert Bondaryk, Ph.D., senior vice president of Cogenics.

"We have already attracted new customers for the first projects on the platform and we have a strong pipeline of current and new customer interest in 454 FLX sequencing as a companion to traditional automated Sanger sequencing."

Correlogic Systems and JEOL have signed an R&D agreement to enhance the performance of mass spectrometry-based assays in clinical settings. The collaboration will make use of Correlogic's pattern recognition technologies used in proteomic, metabolomic, and genomic studies in conjunction with JEOL's mass spectrometry expertise.

"Over the past year, we have had a very close and productive research

collaboration with JEOL," said Peter J. Levine, CEO of Correlogic Systems.

"This agreement formalizes our link to one of the world's leading mass spectrometer and NMR manufacturers."

Digilab BioVisioN has licensed GenWay Biotech's Sppro IgY technology to allow the company to broaden its portfolio of pre-analytical products and services. Seppro IgY selectively partitions the 12 most abundant proteins that make up to 96 per cent of the protein mass from human plasma or serum to reduce the background noise when looking for biomarkers and drug targets.

MDS Nordion, the isotope and radiopharmaceutical division of MDS Inc., will collaborate with the University of Ottawa Heart Institute to establish a Molecular Imaging Centre of Excellence to advance cardiology research.

"We are making a major commitment to innovation with this new centre that can ultimately make a profound difference in the lives of cardiac patients," said Steve West, president of MDS Nordion.

"By joining forces with the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, we have a phenomenal opportunity to share world-class knowledge, equipment and advanced technology to improve cardiac care."

Sigma-Aldrich has launched a new peptide partnership program, AQUA (Absolute Quantification). Proteomics customers ordering custom AQUA peptides from Sigma-Aldrich, will be invited to join the partnership with the sequences of their peptides being added to the AQUA peptide library in return for receiving partnership pricing on their custom orders.

"We clearly recognize the need within the Proteomics community for a sizable library of stable-isotope labeled tryptic peptides, and we look forward to partnering with our customers to make that library a reality," said Jennifer Williams, Sigma-Aldrich product manager for quantitative proteomics.

SuperArray Bioscience has entered into a license agreement with Applied Biosystems (ABI) to gain access to ABI's polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and real-time PCR technology.

"We are excited to create Real-time PCR-based pathway and gene analysis assays using the technologies from Applied Biosystems," said Dr Li Shen, president of SuperArray Bioscience.

"The unique capability of SuperArray to examine pathways in an integrated approach will greatly expand the application of real-time PCR in drug discovery and biomedical research."
